Rhode Island (Little Rhody) is the smallest state in the nation, measurng only 38 by 48 miles. Most of the area is hily with a pleasant, rolling countryside. The southeastern part of the state partially encompasses Narragansett Bay. The climate is fairly mild.
Rhode Island is highly industrialized, producing jewelry, silverware, textiles, rubber, granite; fisheries and agriculture are also important.
The principal cities are Providence (the capital), Pawtucket, Cranston, Woonsocket, Warwick, East Providence and Westerly. Pleasure areas include Watch Hill; Block Island (9 miles south of the southern coast), known for its bathing beaches and good fishing; and New Port, the famous resort.
