There are many small and large islands in Seychelles. Commonly known are the islands of Mahe, La Digue and Praslin. The fact that these are the most visited by tourists causes the written sources, especially in Turkish, to be more limited regarding other islands. I told you about some of the lesser known islands.
If you happen to be on your way one day, we would say don’t forget to include these islands in your plan.
Seychelles: Mahe Island
The majority of the tourists who come to Seychelles go to other islands where they will spend their holidays without visiting the main island Mahe. However, this is a common mistake made. Mahe is the largest island of Seychelles and is home to 90% of its total population.
The fact that the capital Victoria is in Mahe is one of the main reasons for the heavy traffic and people. However, a warm environment where almost everyone knows each other and where local people socialize by playing dominoes in front of a local shop will welcome you.
In Mahe, you can find many escape routes beyond the city, where you can leave the hustle and bustle of modern life and bring you to the beaches and mountains.
Transition from Mahe to other islands is made by tiny whirlwind planes and by sea. If you want to go by sea by ferry, you can check the scheduled services at http://www.seyferry.com. I would definitely recommend spending at least 2-3 days in Mahe before moving on to popular islands such as Praslin and La Digue.
Seychelles: Fregate Island
The only way to stay on Frégate, the mysterious and unknown island of the country, is the Frégate island special hotel. Celebrities such as Bill Gates, Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have stayed at the hotel, which was opened in 1998. Inspired by Bali and Thai architecture, the hotel’s surroundings are surrounded by island-specific trees, coffee plantations, banyan trees, etc. covered with different vegetation.
Unlike other islands, Frégate is where you can see the magpie robin bird. The best place to snorkel on the island is Anse Victorin on the southeast side. Anse Victorin is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Seychelles: Slhouette Island
Silhouette is the 5th largest island of Seychelles. With the advantage of its topography and underdevelopment, Silhouette Island is one of the richest biodiversity of the Indian Ocean islands. Mont Dauban, the second highest peak of the archipelago, is located here. Although one of the least known islands, the beaches on the east coast of Silhouette island are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. In 1987, the surrounding waters were declared a National Park.
Seychelles: North Island
North Island, which was the honeymoon route of Prince Williams and Kate Middleton in 2011, is located 7 km east of Silhouette Island. It is relatively smaller and less forested. Most of the island’s native trees were cut down, but replanted by starting a special program. In addition, the spawning areas of sea turtles are under protection. The white-eyed bird, which is unique to Seychelles and very rare in the world, is under protection. You can see this white-eyed bird on some postage stamps. Private helicopter tours are organized from Mahe to the island, which has beautiful beaches all around.
Seychelles; Island of Bird
With the arrival of millions of seabirds to lay their eggs on the island, the British named the island ‘Bird Island’. Bird Island is also known as cow island because of the fact that there were sea cows in its waters. Because sea cows are known to be a very good source of fat, they have unfortunately become extinct over time. There is only one flight per day from Mahe to the island, so it would make sense to stay at least 2 nights. 35% of those who visit this island are addicted to Bird Island and they come back to visit it every year.
Seychelles: Denis Island
Denis Island, the sister of Bird Island, is also located to the north of Mahe. Denis Island has one of the most luxurious accommodation facilities you can stay in Seychelles. After spending even a few hours here, the outside world completely loses its importance. When the first travelers came to the island and wanted to claim it for their country, they would either leave a stone for deed or put a small stone in a bottle and bury it. Maybe somewhere on Denis Island there is still such a bottle buried?
Seychelles: La Digue Island
La Digue is the fourth largest island of Seychelles. In the period when tourism started, La Digue was the place where time was forgotten.
