There are hundreds of excellent eating places throughout the city and many nightclubs offering expensive dining, dancing, entertainment and chances to see movie stars.
Parks and zoos include Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, with statues and historical memorials; Marineland, 25 miles south at Palos Verdes, ocean fish and whales in an open aquarium; Griffith Park, on the south slope of Mt Hollywood, with a zoo, observatory, planetarium, satellite exhibit and travel museum.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art, on Wilshire Boulevard, consists of three pavilions holding up to 25 million worth of art treasures. Outdoor decor of pools and fountains is embellished with fine sculptures and mobiles. California Museum of Science and Industry includes a space display and the Shirley Temple Doll Collection. The County Museum of Natural History, Southwest Museum, has Indian handicrafts and relics (closed 15 August – 15 September).
