A less expensive hotel street in the same neighborhood, and one with abit more charm, is the Rue du Sommerard, which runs parallel to the Rue des Ecoles, between the Boulevard St. Germain and Rue des Ecoles. To reach it, again walk uphill on the Boulevard St. Michel until you pass the Rue du Sommerard on your left, one block before the Rue des Ecoles.
The star attraction here is the sprightly, little Hotel Marignan, is Rue du Sommerard, whose young, multilingual owners provide babysitters on request, make washing and ironing facilities available to the customers, and maintain a good library of tourist information. Breakfast and service included in all charges.
Down the block, a close runner-up (and it’s a larger hotel) is the Hotel Wetter, 9 Rue du Sommerard, all prices including breakfast, service and taxes. A high recommendation for this friendly hotel, whose prices are just right. If the Wetter is full, walk in the other directian to the Hotel Home Latin, 17 Rue du Sommerard, whose English-speaking owner. Failing all else, try the only passable Hotel “At Home”, just around the corner from the Rue du Sommerard, at 7 Rue Thenard.
