The history of the temples, which are said to be 1,000 years older than the pyramids in Egypt, is also known to have preceded Stonehenge. The Ggantija Temple Complex on the Island of Gozo in Malta is one of the oldest religious buildings in the world, and all seven temples were built between 3600-3200 BC. 2. Grandmaster’s Palace
When we talked about Malta’s historical tourist destinations, we wanted to open a separate article for Grandmarter’s Palace. The name of the palace, which can attract the attention of those interested in history, can be translated into Turkish as “Palace of the Grand Masters Türk. Located on Palace Square, Grandmaster’s Palace has always been the home of the government in Malta at different times in history.
The Knights first used it as a government mansion, and today it is home to the Presidential office. Built between the 16th and 18th centuries, you can visit the palace free of charge when the Maltese parliament is not in session. The Council Room in the palace is particularly impressive with the carpets inside. The other rooms of the palace and the corridors inside are furnished with old coat of arms and armor, and you have a very nice atmosphere.
At the same time, “Armory”, which is located in the basement of the palace, is a must-see place. The world’s largest ammunition collection is located here. One of the most important treasures in the Weapons Depot is the armor set for Grand Master Adrien de Wignacourt in Milan and the full armor set for Grand Master Martin Garzes. Even this palace may be a reason to visit Malta.
3. Valletta
Can we talk about Malta and not mention its capital? Of course not. Valletta, which attracted a lot of visitors throughout the year, was built in 1565 after the Great Siege of Malta. Valletta, called kent the city built by gentlemen for gentlemen,, takes its name from the Master Jean Parisot de Valletta, commanding the Knights of St. John. Known as the city of knights, the capital is one of the must-see cities with its colorful nightlife, harbor of architectural wonders, cafes and restaurants.

4. Mdina
Next is a destination, which has attracted a lot of visitors, especially in recent years: Mdina. Game of Thrones will remember Mdina, Malta’s oldest capital and the streets of Mdina date back to 4,000 years ago. The famous capital, where some scenes of the famous series Game of Thrones were shot, is flocked by those who love this series. Surrounded by walls, Mdina is very interesting with its golden limestone maze-like streets; Also known as “Silent City.. Mdina, which hosts more than 80.000 tourists throughout the year, is a place worth seeing with its Baroque structures, palaces and churches. The city, which you will feel in history when you step in, is also on the UNESCO Temporary List.
Today in Mdina, with a population of 300 people, you will be able to shop in many traditional shops. In addition, you can experience small exhibitions in restaurants where you can experience the traditional tastes of Malta. We are sure that you cannot get enough of the city where cars are forbidden.
5. Culture and art
When you go to Malta, you can rest assured that you will be surrounded by culture, art and history. Here you will find many museums for all tastes. One of the most visited museums is the Archeology Museum. You can experience the cultural history of Malta’s Gozo Island from its prehistoric times to the present.
The National War Museum, which we mentioned in the previous title, is one of the interesting museums in Malta.
