British Columbia is a lovely province of high mountains, dense forests (the famous Douglas firs) and torrential rivers. The Fraser River is the biggest salmon breeder in the world. The coastal area is remarkable not only for its mild climate but also for its many examples of Indian totem art.
Vancouver, Canada’s third largest city, is superbly situated on the long fjord-like Burrard Inlet (Vancouver Harbor) with a backdrop of forested slopes rising to snow-capped peaks. The city offers a wide variety of recreational facilities within easy reach. Long sandy beaches near town, yachting from Fisherman’s Cove, salmon fishing on Horseshoe Bay, steelhead trout in Capilano Creek, duck and geese shooting on the Fraser delta.
A lofty suspension bridge swings perilously across the width of the beautiful Capilano Canyon and, from the top of Capilano Road, the Skyride cablecar rises up Grouse Mountain to Grouse Nest restaurant, with a wonderful view. Stanley Park, a large natural forest area of fi and cedar, juts into the sea, forming one arm of the harbor entrance. Spanning the harbor is the beautiful Lions head suspension bridge. The park has an open air theater and zoo, an aquarium with killer whale performances, canoeing, bowling and cricket. Vancouver is a friendly, cosmopolitan city.
