Vienna: Once capital of a mighty empire

The Borough of Manhattan has more people than the whole of Austria and yet Vienna is, for elegance and sheer joy of living the equal of any capital in the world. Small wonder that Austria attracts a record number of visitors. The once mighty empire has shrunk drastically, but the national fiber is umimpaired.

Climate: Cold winters and delightful summers. June – September are the best months for warm – weather touring, December – April ideal for winter vacation.

How to Get There: Direct flights to Vienna, Schwechat Airport, from New York via Amsterdam and Brussels. Flying time from New York is 9 hours, Amsterdam 2 hours and Brussels 1 hour.

Requirements for Entry and Custom Regulations: Valid passport, no visa is required for stays up to three months. No restrictions on the amount of foreign currency that may be brought in or taken out. Duty free allowance: 400 cigarettes, or 100 cigars or 500 grams of tobacco, 1 liter of spirits; 2 liters of wine.

Airport Information: Schwechat Airport is 11 miles from the center of Vienna. Buses to and from the Landstrasse Terminal run daily on the half-hour. There are bus services between the main hotels and the airport. No arrival or departure tax at Schwechat. The airport has a duty-free shop, a nursery, a hotel reservation corner and a rent a car counter.
