Berne, the capital of Switzerland, is one of Europe’s best preserved cities, with attractive arcaded streets and decorative fountains. The bear-pit by Nydegg Bridge is the best example of late heraldic animals. Berne Cathedral is the best example of late gothic style in Switzerland, with beautiful stained glass windows and carved choir stall.

The clock tower has a famous 16th century astronomical clock with figures that move four minutes before every hour. The Art Museum houses the biggest Klee collection in the world. The City Historical Museum displays Charles the Bod’s booty and the Swiss Postal Museum has the world’s largest stamp collection open to public. In the Botanic Gardens you can see rare mountain plants from the Pyrenees to the Himalayas.

From Easter to the end of October, the old part of the cty is illuminated from dusk to midnight and you will get a good view from the Rose Garden. The Swiss Fair of Art and Antiques is held each Fall in the Art Museum.
