Singapore is an island in Asia, sandwiched between Indonesia and Malaysia, at the southern tip of the Malay peninsula. The only city-state in the world founded on the island. This country, whose 5.7 million population is mostly Chinese, Malay and Indian; It is a very cosmopolitan place where Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Christian and people of different faiths live together.
It was founded by the Englishman Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. After being under British colony for many years, it was occupied by the Japanese, then joined Malaysia and finally gained its full independence in 1965. British colonial influence is still visible; For example, as in England, three sockets are used, and traffic flows from the left. The name of its founder, Raffles, appears in a few touristic places in Singapore (such as the Raffles hotel).
This country, which consists of 40 islets connected to it, is among the richest and most tourist-attracting countries in the world today. There are not so many museums, palaces, monuments, etc. that you will get tired of visiting historically and culturally, but areas such as theme parks, botanical gardens, zoos make this a tourist attraction point. Singapore is a country where everyone can’t wait to go and take pictures, with its skyscrapers, pools and roof top bars on the terraces of hotels rising to the sky.
Metro (MRT): You can buy two separate tickets in Singapore as Ez-Link and Singapore Tourist Pass. Tourist pass ticket price is S$10 for one day – S$16 for two days, a deposit of S$10 is required. If you want to keep the card as a souvenir, of course, you cannot get your 10 S$ deposit back. You can use your Tourist pass tickets on an unlimited number of all MRT, metro, LRT and buses. The ticket is valid until the end of the working hours on the same day of purchase (until 12 o’clock in the busses, and until midnight on the metro).
You pay as you use the card called Ez-Link. Card 12 S$ of which 5 S$ is non-refundable as card money, 7 S$ is the amount you can use for the trip. After a 7 S$ journey, which is roughly 3 subway rides, you have to pay the regular ticket price (i.e. between S$ 0.73 – S$ 1.66 for the bus, S$ 0.83 – S$ 1.95 for the MRT) on every other journey. By the way, don’t forget to read your card while getting on and off the subway.
Of course, if you can stay at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, which is built from a platform on three towers, for accommodation, take it! You will remember this hotel with Singapore view photos taken in its pool. On the top floor of the hotel, there is an observation deck and an infinity pool.
Raffles hotel is a very luxurious and elite hotel. Prince William and Kate Middleton chose this hotel during their visit to Singapore. It is impressive with its wooden structure and white appearance. Of course, the prices are astonishing, but if your budget allows, you should consider this luxury accommodation.
If you need to choose a place other than these two hotels, you should choose Clark Quay, which is close to nightlife, and if that is not the case, you should choose a place close to the metro stations. We stayed at Village Hotel Katong. Frankly, we will not comment much on the hotel as we only stayed one night. But our room was very stylish and comfortable and the breakfasts were just as clean and delicious.v
